CFRP in bridge construction: Enertec Engineering supplies monitoring solution

swiss sensor technology

Description of the

Enertec Engineering AG is monitoring the world's first CFRP prestressing system on the Ränggloch viaduct with load cells, radio loggers and a monitoring platform.

Project overview

As part of the renovation of Cantonal Road 4 between Littau and Kriens, a globally unique solution was implemented on the Ränggloch leaning viaduct: Two of the four conventional steel prestressing cables were replaced by carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) parallel wire bundles, the anchoring of which is also made entirely of CFRP.

Enertec's contribution:

Enertec Engineering AG provided the following services for this pioneering project:

  • Supply of electrical anchor load cells for monitoring the forces in the CFRP cables

  • Provision of wireless data loggers that enable wireless and continuous data acquisition

  • Operation of the monitoring platform, which allows the preload forces to be displayed and analysed in real time

Advantages of the solution:

Continuous monitoring provides valuable data on the long-term behaviour of the CFRP prestressing and contributes to the safety and durability of the structure.

Conclusion:

With its innovative measurement technology, Enertec Engineering AG is making a significant contribution to the realisation and monitoring of this world first in bridge construction.
